SAP Challenge: a single integrated supply chain network
Philips Lighting’s entire supply chain network is to be integrated into a single global entity in the coming years. This will allow changes in demand or supply to flow through to the other parts without delay, and enable a rapid response. A higher degree of supply chain standardization is therefore necessary, and the first step is already implemented with the standardization of the demand patterns. The operation will be further implemented during the next three years.
A perfect match between IT and Business is essential here since an integrated network of this kind is inconceivable without an IT system. The IT Business Consultants must demonstrate that IT is not a ‘necessary evil’ but adds value. Important success factors are insight into the needs of the business, persuasiveness, enthusiasm and a realistic understanding of what is feasible. Clear choices must be made with an eye to future developments. After all, current solutions still have to be functional in a few years’ time.
